Preparing For Your Secondary Education Interview
Congratulations on qualifying for interview with RCTTP! Some preparation is required for your interview, so please read the information below carefully as soon as possible to avoid being unprepared.
Secondary Education Subject Specific Task
The first part of the interview will focus on your ability to explain an aspect of your subject. When preparing your explanation, you should imagine that you are teaching a class of mixed ability, Year 7 pupils.
The focus for each subject specific interview task is given below. Please prepare your explanation in advance of the interview. Your explanation should last 5 – 8 minutes. Please be aware that we will stop you if you go over 8 minutes.
You may not make use of pre-prepared notes or materials during the interview.

- Prepare for the set task- give yourself plenty of time, ask for advice from any friends or family working in schools.
- Consider following areas- why you want to become a teacher, what skills, and qualities you can bring to the role, reflect on how your previous experience will help you as a teacher.
- Familiarise yourself with the national curriculum.
- Do some research around safeguarding procedures in schools.
- Think about any questions you’d like to ask us following your interview.
